Growing up surrounded by mountains, rivers, meadows, and fresh air, I was constantly drawn to nature as a source of inspiration for my creativity. However, my biggest influence has always stemmed from the trips I would take to California's East Bay Area, to visit my family. The morning fog, clear ocean mist, fresh edible vegetation, and collection of vibrant lively florals, always made me feel exhilarated and renewed! The strong desire I have in my heart to protect this area and others alike is what inspired me to create Coastline Charcoal. Influenced by my adventures, I create my art based on common themes already present in the natural surrounding elements. During my creative process, I transform memories of my travels into vivid and moving compositions. The most common theme I draw inspiration from are the unique, high-quality stones that I find along the way. The character, color, and beauty of these stones are optimal for the transfer of real life to a painted image.
Every painting is a mystery and a discovery to me. They change as I am working on them, and I love the process. I love the colors of the paint, the texture of the paper, and the weight each brush carries. I love the mixture of surprise when working with watercolor. I enjoy building up the colors, and striping them back as they form. I value the freedom, and methodical pace it takes to create a piece, as each is different and unique to its own. The process of my art involves an intuitive and experimental form, often built by starting with a wash and gradually layering. The paintings at Coastline Charcoal are almost entirely created using natural, organic pigment from the earth's source of inspiration.
Inspired by earth and influenced by minimalism, I simplify what I see down to its most basic form.
My paintings are usually created in the middle of the night, where I tend to be most awake and can focus best! I hold a BA in Art Studios, with a focus in Painting, Sculpting, and Welding!
I hope you see a painting that creatively inspires you!
